IIOT in food processing
How Utenzl uses the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) to transform equipment makers.
What is the business value of connecting my equipment to the cloud?
Whether you know it or not your equipment outputs data, and lots of it, but simply capturing and storing data is not enough to create business value. Transforming data and delivering it as a business relevant service is what creates value. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) not only enables thing connectivity but also enables the delivery of it “as-a-service”. Platform as a service (PAAS), software as a service (SAAS), equipment as a service, anything as a service (XAAS). There are no shortage of acronyms for this service model, but what does it really mean to be a “as-a service” provider? Makers of food processing equipment have been in this business from the beginning with professional services. But while professional services is delivering service it lacks the powerful benefits of a “as-a-service”. When we partner with our customer to build an IOT solution for their equipment our goal is to create a relevant “as-a-service” solution. After all our engagement model is such that if the solution doesn’t succeed, we don’t succeed, and a successful solution will generate powerful business value. It creates high customer engagement, it generates high profit margins, it naturally lends itself to a recurring revenue model, and it creates a high cost to switching to competitors. How does Utenzl add "as-a-service" to my equipment?
Utenzl is powered by an internally developed IOT application engine (IOT Platform). This is a fully managed platform that securely connects globally dispersed devices (called things) to the Internet and then integrates these connections to cloud services. The platform allows us to accelerate the delivery of “as-a-service” solutions. For example, when an extrusion cooking equipment maker wanted to add value to their system, we developed a hygienic monitoring solution accessible from any computer, smart phone or tablet connected to the Internet. This solution is sold as an add-on feature and is accessible “as-a-service” for a monthly fee. Using our platform we offered this service as a fully managed solution. Utenzl builds all the sensor kits and handles all on-boarding, and our platform manages all device connections, authentications, protocol bridging, registries and integrates business logic, database and visualizations. Learn more about how our platform handles hundreds of communication protocols (ThingSpeak), and integrates cloud services (EUX). In this case, Utenzl added product value that generated incremental business value in customer engagement and recurring revenue. Every time an operations manager logs into a console to determine pathogen levels that is a stakeholder engaging with the product.
